1967-68 Camaro / Firebird OEM Radio Plate

Josh's Muscle Car Parts reproduction of the original radio face plate bezel for use with 1967-68 models. This die-cast plate is manufactured to original specifications and features the correct black semi gloss finish along with original style chrome outer trim.

The plate is for use with original factory radios only. Aftermarket radios require a different plate due to differences in the knob spacing.

Officially Licensed GM Restoration Part

Note: Knob spacing: 6-3/6" on centers, face opening: 4-1/4" wide x 1-3/4" high.

The OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) radio plate for a 1967-1968 Camaro or Firebird refers to the factory-installed mounting plate or bezel designed to hold the radio unit in the dashboard of the vehicle. Here are some key points about the OEM radio plate for these classic cars:

  1. Material and Design: The OEM radio plate is typically made of metal or plastic and is designed to match the aesthetics of the vehicle's interior dashboard. It often has a chrome or brushed aluminum finish to complement the other trim elements in the cockpit.

  2. Mounting Location: The radio plate is located in the center of the dashboard, usually between the driver and passenger sides. It serves as the mounting point for the radio unit and may feature cutouts or openings for the radio controls, display, and knobs.

  3. Integration: The OEM radio plate is specifically designed to integrate seamlessly with the vehicle's dashboard design. It may have features such as mounting clips, screw holes, or tabs that allow for easy installation and secure attachment of the radio unit.

  4. Compatibility: The OEM radio plate is designed to fit the dimensions of the factory-installed radio unit for the 1967-1968 Camaro or Firebird models. While aftermarket radio units may also be compatible with the mounting plate, modifications may be necessary to ensure a proper fit.

  5. Restoration and Replacement: For enthusiasts restoring or maintaining a classic Camaro or Firebird, the OEM radio plate is an essential component to preserve the authenticity and originality of the vehicle's interior. If the original radio plate is damaged or missing, replacement plates are available from aftermarket suppliers specializing in restoration parts for classic cars.

  6. Customization: Some owners may choose to customize their Camaro or Firebird by replacing the OEM radio plate with aftermarket options featuring modern amenities such as touchscreen displays, Bluetooth connectivity, or digital media playback capabilities. In such cases, compatibility with the vehicle's dashboard layout and dimensions should be carefully considered.

The 1960s muscle car era was a time of great innovation and growth in the automotive industry. It was a period of intense competition between car manufacturers, as they sought to outdo one another with increasingly powerful and sophisticated vehicles.

During this time, muscle cars became increasingly popular, particularly among younger car enthusiasts. These cars were known for their large, powerful engines, aggressive styling, and high-performance capabilities. Some of the most iconic muscle cars of the era include the Chevrolet Chevelle SS, the Ford Mustang, and the Plymouth Road Runner.

The muscle car era was marked by a number of technological innovations that helped to push the limits of automotive performance. One of the most significant of these was the development of the V8 engine, which allowed for increased horsepower and torque. Other innovations included the use of lighter materials in car construction, the adoption of fuel injection systems, and the use of advanced transmission technologies.

The muscle car era was also marked by a strong sense of cultural significance. These cars were symbols of American muscle and power, and they were often featured in popular culture, such as movies and music. The muscle car era came to an end in the 1970s, as rising fuel prices and stricter emissions regulations led to a shift towards more fuel-efficient vehicles.

Despite the end of the muscle car era, these vehicles continue to hold a special place in the hearts of car enthusiasts around the world. They are celebrated as symbols of a bygone era of automotive innovation and power, and their legacy lives on in the modern high-performance vehicles of today.
