1960-1977 GM & Mopar - Saginaw Power Steering Pump O-Ring Seal Kit
Saginaw supplied the power steering pump on nearly every GM car and truck of the muscle era, and Chrysler used the same pump on many Dodge and Plymouth models. On these pumps the reservoir canister fits over the pump body and is sealed with O-rings, and once that rubber hardens with age, fluid weeps from the seams and coats the bracket, the block and the frame rail below. Kit 1253575 contains eight O-rings that reseal the pump to reservoir joints and put an end to the slow drip that never seems to stop.
What You Get, and What You Don't
The set includes eight O-rings made from a rubber or synthetic compound that resists power steering fluid. It is intended for most Saginaw pumps through 1977, including the common P-series pump. Note that the front shaft seal is not part of this kit, so a leak coming from behind the pulley needs a separate seal. The 1253575 number is the same reference OER uses for its GM licensed version of this set.

Resealing the Pump
Most mechanics pull the pump from its bracket and do the job on the bench, since it is far easier to see the sealing surfaces there. Drain the fluid, separate the reservoir from the pump body, and clean every groove so no old rubber or grit is left behind. Lubricate each new ring with clean power steering fluid before assembly so it seats without rolling or tearing. After reinstalling, fill the reservoir and turn the wheel lock to lock with the engine idling to bleed the air out.

Eight. That covers the seals between the pump body and the reservoir on a typical Saginaw pump, so one kit reseals one pump.
Will this kit stop a leak at the front of the pump?
Not if the fluid is coming from the input shaft behind the pulley. The shaft seal is a separate part and is not included, so trace the leak to its source before you tear the pump down.
Does it fit my Dodge or Plymouth?
It fits only if the car carries a Saginaw pump. The Dodge and Plymouth entries above are specifically Saginaw-equipped applications, so check the pump design on your car before ordering.
